When difficulty strikes, ask these questions.
Listen
What’s going on?
What’s really going on?
Establish Accountability
Given the whole situation, what is the one thing you care about the most?
Analyze the Evidence
Clearly this could be terrible, but what evidence is there it has to turn out that way?
Do Something
What can you do to at least increase the chances that it turns out okay?
Why Wait? You can use the LEAD Sequence proactively, to help out people who appear down, or who seem to be having a difficulty.
Listen to the Response — What question would you ask to get them to talk to you about the situation?
Establish Accountability — Fill in the blank, “Given the whole situation, what is…”
Analyze the Evidence — First, take what they are saying, all the way in. This important step is often ignored.
